E-zines: What Needs to be in a Newsletter to Make it Successful and More!

First, let me start by saying there is no right or wrong newsletter content. It should, however, always be tailored to your target market and fit with their needs and wants.

The key to a successful newsletter is not all about content, which is highly important, but consistency is equally important. Before you start a newsletter pick a schedule and stick with it. If you tell your readers you’ll be emailing weekly, bi-monthly, or weekly doesn’t really matter – what matters is you keep your integrity and do it.  If you do absolutely have to miss a week, say something and let them know why the next time around.  The newsletter helps to build the know, like, and trust factor – remember that – always!

Here are a few things you can include in your newsletter content to help with its readership:

1. A personal note from you – anywhere from a few lines to a few paragraphs – give your readers a chance to connect with you personally

2. Information – an article, tips, strategies or some other bit related to your market. This doesn’t have to be written by you, you could hire a ghostwriter or use other people’s articles – as long as you give them credit.

3. Featured Spotlight – whether a recommended resource, a client testimonials, or a featured client.

4. A Call to Action – always offer your services. This gets your readers used to you offering your services and they won’t reactive negatively when you do. If you  never offer anything and then go to offer something, ironically people get more upset by that.

5. Photos say a thousand words – use visuals and html when possible.

Do you include anything else in your newsletter? I’d love to hear.
